Killybegs Community Council

The 5th Hooked Seafood Festival will take place on Saturday 07th September at the LYIT campus, Killybegs. This hugely successful event run by Killybegs Community Council is a great family day and a must for seafood lovers.  Featuring the Donegal heat of The All Ireland Chowder Competition, since beginning in 2015 Hooked has seen two winners go on to become All Ireland Chowder Champions!

Hosted by Food Ambassador Zack Gallagher the fun begins at 11am and features a great programme of events.  See the amazing skills of local filleters, taste some of the best chowder in the country, sample the wares of local seafood producers and try something completely different by entering the stomach-churning Seafood Tucker Trial.

A new addition of a Seaweed Bread Competition sponsored by Gallagher’s Bakery is still open to entries for amateur bakers.  The professional chefs, including Zack, will be showing off their expertise at the demo kitchen in the marquee. Children and adults will be well entertained throughout the day by games and a Pirate Show from Corvenios.

Ocean FM will broadcast live from Hooked thanks to funding from Donegal County Council.  In addition to generous local sponsorship and hardworking volunteers, Hooked is made possible by funding from Capiten, Interreg Atlantic Area, BIM, FLAG and Donegal Food Coast.

The closing event at 5pm is a lifesaving display by the Killybegs Coastguard and the RNLI.  With cruise ship MV Black Watch also in town it looks like being a very busy day of nautical fun. The Hooked Team wish to thank everyone involved and look forward to seeing everyone there!
